That is the model I have!

I have the 1981 Hunter 25. Great boat. Hull is solid fiberglass. Deck is cored with plywood I believe. Mine has had no problems with deck delamination but check it closely. I usually do this by jumping on each area to see if there is any flexing of the deck. Keel is lead. Check the keel bolts for tightness and any leaking. Also check the hull to keel joint for tightness. It is a fool proof boat in my opinion but check it out as with any boat.

Thanks!

Kenny, Anything other details I should look for when checking out this boat? By the way, boat was originally from N.J. and has made its way to Nova Scotia. glenn

H25 Draft

My H25 was a shoal draft model. I found that it sailed well in all weather conditions. With the motor up (out of the water) it was extremely fast down wind. I could easily beat the H27s in our area. I do know that it also came with a deep keel and they also offerred an inboard engine option.

Two keels

I have the shoal draft which is 2ft 11Inches and great for eastern North Carolina. There is also a standard keel which is 3ft 11 inches. Both seem to have the same keel weight of 1400 lbs. Only thing I have no liked is where the water filler is located. It is in a locker and gets water in your boat every time you go to fill it. I plan to move mine but have no gotten to that yet. You will love the anchor locker, great design feature. Inside layout is very functional for such a small boat. Goes great is light air and goes well in heavy air if you reef early. Outboard motor is somewhat hard to reach for starting and pulling up. Electric starting would be nice. Forward deck area is a little narrow but with life lines and webbing not a problem. Love the 8 opening ports for ventilation. No leaks in mine so far.

1981 Hunter 25

I have a 1981 Hunter 25. I brought it cheap on ebay. Mine is 3'11" draft. there does seem to be some variation in how the boats were laid up. Some of the boats have no, none , zero spider cracking. Some do have some minor stress/spider cracking in the high stress areas. Since I am over 290 pounds, everywhere I step is HIGH LOADED. Check for wear on the rudder shaft. If there is any softness in the deck, you should request a core drillling of the deck. A 1/4 inch drill makes a small hole that is easy to fill. ANy wet wood shavings are a sure sign of trouble. Everything is repairable, but either get it cheap or find a better boat. On a 25 year old boat the opening ports may have some issues. BTW I Luanched my boat on April 1 and won the spring racing series on handicap with old sails. Bob S/V Wind Dee

Material

I have a "76" 25, it is solid fiberglass as far as I know. I don't believe they had changed the hull until the 25.5's came out in the 80ties. If you're considering buying this boat, take a small hammer and tap the hull from stem to stern, sound should be clear if you hear a thud, then you have delamination. That can be fixed quite easily unless it's in a strategic place and may be a bargaining chip for a cheaper price. Also check the mast step for possible balsa wood core rot.
