Chuck, I just bought a 1985 Hunter 22', and I am new to sailing. Why would you put 50# lead under the port berth...is it to compensate for the motor and gas?
That is what I'd suspect. I find my 40lb fresh water jug and battery mounted to port serve the same function. NOTE: If your electrical panel is mounted low on the starboard berth I suggest you move it. Mine was there and was COMPLETELY corroded. I now have it and the radio mounted in a box attached abaft the port wooden brace over the bunk (nice and dry there)
