Hi to all. We're trying to eliminate heavy leaks on the four fixed portlights. Anyone knows where to find complete sets for a total substitution of the portlights units, frames a
& plexi?
Thanks to everybody for your help!

Why do you believe that they need to be replaced and not just rebedded?

Try Catalina Direct

dot com. I believe they have replacement "gear" for aluminum framed fixed portlights and you can do what Ross suggests with the material they have available. At least it's a start.

I had a '72 T/2 and the problems I had were common across all models of that era, but I can't recall if it applied to the 80's Cals.

Anyway, when you disassemble the older versions by removing the screws on the inside, the glass is sealed by a gasket with a rectangular cross section that you can find a suitable replacement in a glass shop or industrial supply company. The Biggest problem was that the cutouts were often poorly cut leaving big gaps that were hard to seal.

One solution was to rebuild the Fiberglas for a better fit...very laborious and the one I foolishly chose.

I think the better solution was to abandon the aluminum frames, buy dark gray lexan and cut it in the swept style like the fixed ports on modern boats, bolt it to the cabin sides bedded in black sealant (carefully taped) and give her a nice makeover look. Use thin luan to make patterns for the fore and aft portlights before cutting and reverse the lexan side to side

DIY Magazine has a good article in their 2004-1 issue about replacing or redoing port lights. The article covered the various solutions along with their advantages and disadvantages in a thoughtful way (based on experience of the author).

Mark Plastics - Mark Heacox in Corona CA, made the originals and has templates for the CAL 31. I had him make some new ones for my CAL31 in tempered glass, came out really nice.
