the 5'11" draft on my 1981 C&C34 is to deep for florida and the bahamas. cutting 6" off the bottom of the keel would change the B/D ratio from 41% to 37%. bad idea?

Bad Idea yes. Mars Metals will take the cut off and make you a bulb to bolt back on to the stub. Several boats here in SW Florida have done this, race successfully. One had 15 inches cut off. You might well think about doubling or tripling the 6 inches. 5-5 will still be too deep.

bad idea for safety reasons on sailing performance? I will check with mars but thought it was very pricey to add wings from mars. Do you know anyone that has had this done that i could call or the boatyard that did thework. Also are there any reasonable slips available in your area? I'm paying $325 a month at the Marathon boatyard for dry storage.

It has been more than 10 years ago, I'm sure, but one of the sailing magazines had an article on the Mars swapout. I believe they used a chain saw to cut the lead keel?

Jerry Poquette, contact info sent separately sent the the cut off piece and dimensions to mars. They moulded a bulb for Jerry to thru bolt on. My guess is freight to/from Marathon will be costly, but on the otherhand, so would selling this boat and buying a suitable one. For wet slips, you could try either Burnt Store Marina or Fisherman's village. You'll have to google them, I don't have contact info handy. All America Boat Storage has cheaper dry storage, but at 5-11 you will have to time your approach for a Spring High.
