1981 2-gm Yanmar Zinc

The zinc in the head is attached through a cover plate. Can I just unscrew the zinc from the plate or do I need to remove the cover plate.
The second zinc simply screws into the block.

2 GM Zinc

It looks like you may only have one zinc on the GM model. My 2QM has two on either end but from the manual I can find only one on the GM. Here is a link to the manuals. Number 28 on the photo is the zinc. If you would like to try and remove the zinc with out taking off the panel there is likely no harm. Conversely I see no harm in taking the panel off and having a look see.
