Hunter 33 Lake Mead
I just bought a 1980 Hunter 33. I noticed when flushing the head that the water was ending up in my bilge. I followed the line from the head looking for signs of a leak before reaching the through hull valve. What I found was that the line just stopped. So the water was just pouring into the bilge. The line turns upward just behind the gas tank and stops. (See attached pics) There doesn’t seem to be ANYTHING in that area for it to attach to. Also, I can’t seem to find the through hull outlet where I thought it SHOULD connect. Please help!

Not sure what kind of help you are looking for.

If it were my boat, I'd pull out the head and all lines and put in a composting head. Problem solved.

If you want to keep the original marine head, you need to rebuild that system. You need a holding tank - is there one in the boat? There is a lot more to rebuilding a compliant holding tank system: Y valve, pump-out fitting - is there one? Macerator pump, pump out system for when you are more than 3 miles off shore, etc...

But for now, I’m just trying to get my current situation working. There is a bladder (holding tank) on board. That is working fine. I’m trying to hook up the “overboard” system. I just need to know where the through hull valve is located on this particular boat.
Thanks for your reply.

I had a buddy who had a 30; his head went directly overboard through a valveless through hull just above the waterline just aft of the head compartment. There was no holding tank from the factory.. yours has been modified by that dastardly PO (Previous Owner) guy.. As DJ says, probably time to start from scratch .. The toughest thing is going to be to find the space for the plumbing etc. If you start with a copy of Peggy's book, you'll be ahead of the curve. I think it is available in the forum store, but I can't seem to link it.

Billy, I led you astray, sorry. There was a holding bag on your model.. My buddy's boat was a 1978 Your '80 was set up with one. There is an Owner's Manual for your boat on the forum under "Owner Resources" and "Owner Directory" and "Downloads By Model" There is an original plumbing schematic in that manual..

If you are on Lake Mead over board discharge is probably not a legal option.

It looks like you are on Lake Mead. I could of course be wrong but I'd be surprised that discharge of any sewage into the lake is allowed.

Before spending any money or too much effort on a through hull discharge I would check the regulations on that. You probably just need to use the bladder you mention and then pump that out at a pump out station. Hopefully there is one.

Otherwise a composting head could be a good solution.

Dlochner beat me to it.

If you reach the point of (re) attachment to a flexible tank, seriously consider putting in a "real" holding tank made of rotomolded plastic. The factory was likely trying to save labor and materials $$ by using a bladder.
This will be an opportunity to rectify that.
Other owners have likely been down the effluent road before and will have useful narratives, and you might also search for forums dedicated to your model.
A composting head might be an acceptable solution, but be really really Sure... that the First Mate is 100% in agreement with what needs to be a well-understood mutual decision.

Hi @Billy P welcome to the forum.

Check the deck above the area of the hose for a pump-out deck port. The hive on you image may have been attached to the deck fitting with a screen cap. It would be where you duck the black water out of the boat.
