Has anyone replaced their pedestal mounted compass? Mine has cracked and leaked and I'm looking for a place to buy a replacement for my 1980 Hunter 27. Perhaps a reliable on-line site?

Who is the original manufacturer of your Hunter 27 compass ?

Armed with this bit of information, sit yourself down, turn on your computer, wait for it to boot up and do a Google search for yourself to see who sells compasses on line. I'm betting "Marine Suppliers" do that.

Using the compasses they sell, pull up the spec sheets for those instrruments and see if they'll fit your binnacle.

Now that explanation probably took me three times as long to type up as I would have spent looking for a decent compass for your Hunter 27.

Now that wasn't hard, was it  ?

SCOF25, I have a Ritchie F-85 in good shape that you can have for the UPS shipping charge .. I estimate around $25-$30. The mounting holes are slightly cracked but will work if not unmercifully tightened. I am kinda busy now but will shoot ya a private message later .. I will be out of pocket for a few days but will get a picture to you soon, if ya want it.

I replaced the bulkhead cockpit compass on my H26. I called the SBO store (staffed by former Hunter employees) and they were able to get me one with the exact same cut-out dimensions. Give them a call. They are helpful.

You might consider refurbishment of your existing compass. I have a binnacle mounted Richie compass that was leaking and had a very dulled lens. I sent it to Viking Instruments and they restored it to pretty much like new condition for about $350. I think that’s approximately 1/4 the cost of an equivalent new replacement.
I believe Viking also sells new and refurbished compasses.
