Oday 30 Fair Haven
Hi All,

I recently purchased a 1979 ODay 30 with a folding prop and am currently in the process of refitting it back to (what I believe) it's original 2 blade prop and have a a few questions and looking for help/insights. They are:

1. The engine is a Yanmar 15hp engine Model 2QM15 and the prop that has been stored on the boat (and I believe original) is a Michigan Sailor 16RH-9. Can any one confirm that this is or fits into the specs of the original prop?
2. When 'test-fitting" the prop yesterday the prop slid up the shaft to almost touching the strut and had a bit of play. I have heard that a bit of play in the prop is normal for this boat and wanted to confirm if this is the case and should the prop be so close to the strut?

Again, any insights/ODay expertise will be greatly appreciated.

i don't think there should be any in the prop on the shaft at all ...not sure what you mean by play in the prop.....some pics of the setup would be helpful as far as the prop being so close to the strut....

regards

I have a 36' 20,000 pound boat with a 44 HP four cylinder diesel that uses a 16 X 9 prop.

The prop and shaft should have NO PLAY, and the prop should fit snugly on the taper........ There should be a minimum of 1X shaft diameter between strut, and inboard end of the prop hub...

So spent a few minutes down at boat today and with a lil cleaning of the prop shaft the prop now fits tight onto the shaft. However the prop still is right up against the strut (see pic) with a few mm's of clearance. I think I found someone local who may have a solution but until I have something definite I welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance for the help!
