Greetings, all. I'm looking for a solution to something that's bugged me for years. I have a 1979 Cherubini-designed H30. The top rail of the bow pulpit isn't continuous all the way around so there's a gap in the middle. The problem is that if I sail way off the wind, the jib - especially my 155 - drops into the gap and when I go to harden up someone (me) has to go forward to lift it back up over the rail. I've put up with it for years, but am just going to start racing and see that it could be a big pain. Does anyone know of any workarounds or sources of replacement pulpits for this model and year? I checked with Hunter Marine but they didn't have any solutions. Thanks much. Mark Berns SV Thin Ice

similar pulpit

Have a similar pulpit on my 33. The genny has a rope tied to the cringle and then to the deck. The rope extends the sail to ride over the bow pulpit. If your sail can be raised that much without trouble at the top this fix may solve your problem. I also tie the middle of the rope around the head stay so the sail foot is attached close to the stay. This is on a roller furler headsail that is not hanked on.

Pulpit Solutions

I also had the same problem on my 1979--33. I sail with a hank on. The cheapest solution was to tie a line between the two sides, so that the sail would not go in-between. This worked for many years. My final solution was to have a new pulpit custom made to look like the old one, except the top rail was a continuous flow around the bow. Works like a charm. The grand kids love it because they can sit over the bow and be fully secure, when I use the smaller jib. I enjoy that perch also.

Pulpit Solution

Thanks. That's similar to advice I got from someone else. He added the idea of stringing a couple hockey pucks on the line to help the jib move. I'll give it a try before going the custom pulpit route.
