I have done the October Shelter Island to NYC run quite a few times in both good and bad weather. Usually takes 2 days with a stop in port Jefferson for the night. Most recently we did it the weekend before last , was glorious weather but no wind. We usually have to motor most of the way as the fall winds in the LI Sound are usually from the west. This past trip was in my friends Tartan 34 we ended up in City Island.one year, right after 9/11 we went to the Brooklyn Marina. Quit a trip with the Trade Center still smoking!

That stinks that your parting out your boat Canyonkeeper. Personally, I think you should attempt the long sail north. My experience with the sb8 engine is that once it is running and not overheating, its damn near impossible to stop. The one I have now, despite it age and quirks, runs like a watch for as long as I need it too. I once had it run for 4 hours straight on a day with no wind and didn't get one problem from it.

That being said, if you want to part out your boat I'll be glad to come by and give you some business. You and I share a lot of common parts and I'd love to have spares. If your around this weekend, I'm willing to meet you at your marina cash-in-hand to make some purchases.

Also, does your boat by chance, have stern davits? I'm in the market for a decent pair of stern davits.

If your not comfortable with meeting face-to-face then perhaps you can consider my offers here when parting out your boat.

I am willing to buy from you:
-Engine air intake
-Starter
-Exhaust mixing elbow
-Engine mounts and vibration dampeners
-Valves and all relevant valve assemblies
-Throttle control arm
-Or, if your down for it, I am willing to buy your entire engine. I could use the spare parts.
-Electrical panel switches and your main battery switch; excellent for spares
-All of your teak wood excluding the main grab rails
-Your cam cleat
-A winch
-Your two front window ports, frame and all.

If any of this interests you please reply here, PM me, or what ever. Don't leave me hanging again, this could be a very good opportunity for the both of us. If you don't want to sell anything to me in person, we can handle everything through paypal and UPS.

@Stollo. Sorry for the confusion. In my post I said "maybe" as I have not looked at the other boat and or conferred with the admiral (the gf). If I do make the switch I will be listing everything with appropriate price. Also, I am not avoiding you I am a extremely private person that happens to travel a lot and I have been out of town for a couple weeks.

Thank you everyone for all of the help. I truly do appreciate it.
