Manual

TT, I could'n find one. Did find all the information that I needed here on this web site. If you can't find one let me know. I made a book for myself with all the specs would be glad to copy it for you. It has come in handy many times. I have had to do some extensive work on mine(Replace Port Bulkhead) being the hardest job. If you contact Rudy he can point you in the right direction. I am told that you can get a copy of the Blue Prints from Mystic Sea Port. Don't know what the cost would be but think that would have everything you are looking for. Good luck Joe

Thanks, Joe

Perhaps Stephen will take you up on your kind offer. I went the hard route and loaded up on a bunch of "other specialized publications" so have more information in my 'marine library' than my head can possibly absorb. Right now I'm looking for something called "How to Recapture the Energy & Enthusiasm You Had 20 Yrs Ago". Once I get that little issue nailed , I'll be seeking out the legendary Rudy at D&R cause I heard there is a mod. to add a bulb to the O27's keel that gives a lot more stiffness & better sailing performance. But first to find the motivation and complete the long list of "improvements" and to-do items that I've already started. Tks for your suggestions. I wasn't aware that Mystic would have the prints for anything recent, or made of f'glass.

Sailing Performance

My boat in not that tender. I should say for the first 10 degrees it is. I have sailed in 20 to 30 knot winds many times. At 20 put the first reef in and over 25 go for #2. Never have had a problem. Always seem to out run smoe much larger boats from my marina. Hey, it not my sailing skills that are doing it. Never heard of that MOD. Wonder how much more draft that will cause? We did a five day trip a few weeks ago and started out with 25+ and had a great sail. Sure got across the bay fast. It really helps to tune the rig correctly on this boat makes all the difference in the world.

Rig tuning & keel mod.

Joe - I heard abt the MOD from a guy who has sailed & raced his O27 for a number of years in the SF Bay area. I guess they get a lot of gusty wind there at times. He apparently got it from Rudy at D&R. Says it improved the performance a lot. Don't know more that that, but I made a mental note to check it out if & when I get a bunch of other stuff done on the boat: at the rate I'm going, I'll also need a mod. to make the boat 'wheelchair-accessable' too :) As for 'rig tuning', besides making sure the mast is plumb & straight & using a tension gauge on the shrouds, what to do? I'm not into racing, but would like to try to get the best sailing performance the boat is capable of in terms of set-up etc. Tony

Rig Tuning

I have found that my boat works much better all around with a slight mast rake to the rear. Could not belive it made that much difference. Because I sail hard need to keep rig tight. That meaning not sloppy shrouds. When I first got the boat the PO had the rig very loose. The leeward shrouds just flopped around. Hell, I thought that the boat sailed good then. :) After talking to a frien who has a 28 OD desided to take his advise and was very happ with the results. Has a little weather helm in a stif breeze but I can live with that for the overall result.

Rig tuning - Tks

Joe D - Tks for the tip. I have a lot to learn abt. sailing my O27 but by the time it gets back in the water I should be fairly well informed abt. working on it.
