We just purchased a 17 foot 1978 O'Day as a starter vessel as we learn to sail. Does anyone out there have an owner's manual for this year? Could anyone identify the boat we have? Thanks! Steve & Amy

here it is

That is a Daysailer II. I have the same boat, but a 1974 model. The following website has pictures of my restoration but more importantly, the manual you are looking for. It is the same for all DS II, independent of year. The second link is directly to the text of the manual, so that you can download and print it. Finally, the last link is the Daysailer website and discussion forum. Hope to see you there. It has a wealth of information on our boats. Congratulations on your purchase. This is a nice solid family boat, (see attached picure) but is also a keen responsive racer. http://groups.msn.com/RogerConrad/shoebox.msnw http://boonedocks.net/daysailer_old/ds2man.html http://www.daysailer.org/index.php

Thanks Roger!

Thanks Roger for all the info! We printed out the manual and also found it on another site too. Thanks for the picture of the boat. Your website was very iformative, as my husband kept saying "print that out!" We are going to try to set everything up on land to make sure we know what we are dealing with. Steve (hubby) got the motor to work--it was a free-be (3 hp cruise & carry) Should get us out to deeper water. We do have one area at the top of the main sail that is ripped about 8" or so and mended with old tape, which is coming off. Can I repair a sail with the same dacron material using my sewing machine? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Amy & Steve
