I have just purchased a 1978 Hunter 25 that needed a good home. This vessel needs quite a bit of work. Unfortunately, I have no manual or any information to go on. If anyone can contribute anything it would be greatly appreciated. I need advbice on everything, from the best way to clean sails to renewing the bright work to keeping the batteries charged. Again any advice would be appreciated.

Refurbishing

I refurbished my 1976 25 in 2004-2005, you can get a great deal of info. and help on this site. No manual needed just update your vessel. I replaced the hull-liner with indoor insulated carpet, cabin steps with Chris Craft steps, formica'd table, cabinets and other counter top, had custom teak cabinet doors made in Thailand, only $40.00 at Teak Pete's, etc. Sourced many parts. I charge my battery with an automobile charger in the yard and a small generator when in the water. Any questions feel free to email: mcrociati@aol.com.

All the things you mention (sails, battery charging, wood) are not unique to your boat although finding the manual will help deal with construction details.
For sail cleaning, especially for the first time, I'd suggest you take them to a sail loft for a thorough inspection and cleaning. Subsequent spot cleaning is a more DIY project.
For woodwork detailing, the list of references both here on SBO and generically available on the internet is endless, each author having his/her favorite method and material.
For battery care, there are some excellent discussions here you can find with a search of the archives, books are widely available on boat 12 v power systems and of course, you can always ask specific questions here to get some great advice.

John Cherubini II has been restoring one and recording his efforts here for some years. Here is one example of his postings:

Hi Rick,
I'm over in Julington Creek and also acquired a '78 Hunter 25. I'd be interested in comparing notes as we repair or refit our respective rides.

On my last boat, I used a $20 solar panel to keep the battery topped off. It was one designed for use in a car. It plugged into a cigarette lighter receptacle. I painted the orange plastic case with white epoxy paint. It worked well for over a year (in the weather). I will be using it on the Hunter.
