Anyone experience this?
I've got a 1978 Catalina 30, I bought last year. I went to change oil on the original atomic 4 engine, but could only get dipstick out about 4 inches before it stopped as if there was a stopper of some sort inside the engine preventing it from coming all the way out. It's an older engine (no oil filter), but I can't figure out how to get the oil out except with a tube down the dipstick. Any help would be appreciated.

How much pressure did you apply trying to get it out? Visit the Moyer site and see what they have to say. The dip stick is not that long as far as I remember. Don't have an A-4 anymore. Mine was always loose and easy to remove. Nothing short of a catastrophic failure would bend the stick to the point that you couldn't remove it.

Yo,
There is an oil change plug on the top pan rim, port side. Just forward the fuel pump and aft the carb. Get a wrench on the nipple and back it out. Place the changer tube down in the pan and towards the back. Pump out the old oil (which you had warmed previously, right). When finished install the expensive electric oil changer you had previously purchased for the occasion. Never deal with the problem again, have a beer and tackle the dip stick. Yank the bast__d out.
