1977 or 78 H30 fuel Gauge

Just picked up my H30. Cant seem to figure out the fuel gauge, because there is non.
There is some sort of site glass on the top of the tank that I can see if I pull of the steps. Not sure how to read.

Do some of you have some sort of way that you can check fuel level?

yes sir,
i used to use a dental mirror to see the gage on top of tank but finally just instaall a deck cover over the gage that is removeable.

now you just pop it open then reclose it.

My H30 has a gauge on top of the tank only readable with a flashlight and mirror. I thought about a deck plate but the gauge is directly below the binnacle support. The single cyl yanmars use so little fuel that you don't need to check it very often.

If you are putting in a tachometer, get one with an hour meter included. Then always fill the tank to the top and record how much fuel your engine uses over one hour. Add a little margin for error and calculate the hours of fuel you have left in the tank by subtracting the fuel used since the last fill up.

Remove that float guage and replace it with a Wema unit. You can mount the guage any place that works for you.
