1977 ODay 25' Manual/Trailer

I have recently purchased a 25' ODAY '77 with a Fixed Keel.

My wife and I enjoy the Sailboat and we have it at a Marina in Southern CA.

We are new to sailing, previously a power boat was our mode of enjoyment with the family and friends.

I am in need of repairing a few things on the sailboat. The head and electrical wiring.

The "seavalve" or "throughvalve" is rusted and I would like to replace it as soon as I can get it out of the water. Does anyone have a suggestion for the type of valve to use Plastic or Bronze?

I also need to install a Holding Tank and Vent line.

If anyone can share any information to make this as painless as possible, I would be very much appreciated.

I am also looking to get my hands on a manual for this Sailboat.
If anyone can direct me to a store or person, web site.

Last item. A trailer. I am searching for a trailer for my boat. Off season I would like to take it out of the water and take a good look at the Hull and make any repairs needed. A good coat of paint is needed.

Hi Bill,
My brother and I bought the same boat last Feb. She is on a trailer, not that I want to sell the trailer, but I could provide some pictures of it. The trailer we got with the boat is really a nice platform to hold the boat while under tow. One of the challenges is launching and retrieving the boat with a whole lot of keel in the water at the ramp. We actually unhitch the trailer and then add a long nylon strap to be able to totally submerge the trailer. We also have to watch and select at a positive tide here in Santa Cruz because the ramp actually drops off at some distance from the waterline.

I am not sure there is much of a manual for the boat. I have done a lot of searching and never come across a schematic for it. The wiring is really pretty basic and there is nothing I have seen that is tricky.

We are in the process of making some improvements and repairs. We havent had the boat out much as we trailer it from my house to the ramp. Stepping the mast each time is a chore and someday we will try and get a permanent slip. Right now we are trying to install some slightly larger winches, add a true topping lift, add a VHF antenna to the mast top, change the lights and wiring on the mast, replace the running rigging, add an autopilot, and on and on.....(hey it's a boat and the projects never end).

Here is a picture of it on the trailer, not a real detailed picture, but it does give perspective of a fixed keel on the trailer.

I will be towing with a 2000 Nav. and hopefully I will get a trailer that works out like your does.

Hi Bill,
That was the previous owner's tow vehicle. He lived in Fresno and trailered to some of the foothill lakes. I live in the Santa Cruz Mtns and tow down to town about 10 miles. I live at 2200 ft and I used a 3/4 F250 diesel as my tow vehicle. A good trailer is "priceless" for my situation. The previous owner had no problems in his area with his Expedition.
