I am trying to Remove the Engine for Rebuild? Any Help would be Welcome((= What all has to come off to remove Engine through Hatch?
Lucky me (= I was able to Barter with the Marina for Haul out (EASTON POINT Marina) As most of you know this Summer has been a Tough One. Being new I am learning from trail and error (=. She has a Yanmar factory installed. The motor was partially disassembled when I purchased her)=. I am not a Diesel mechanic)=. I talked to the Owner Danny(= He told me it would be easier to Yank it out So we could work on a bench. The motor looks Like if I turn it Sideways it might fit through Under the Ladder?
If you have experience with this ?

Thanks Rich

Normally, you can remove all the surrounding engine "housing" including the ladder. Then unattach the engine mounting bolts. When I did this I had two bolts I could unscrew and two that I had to remove the whole mounting blocks at the base. Then place a two by six under the engine and lever/tip it up and slide it forward. Then attach a hoist line and lift the engine out of the boat. The engine doesn't weigh as much as you may think and the process should go well for you. Good luck with the engine rebuild.

I think if you attach a 2 x 4 to the top of the boom you can lift it out (block & tackle) of the engine bay after all of the surrounding cabinet are removed (like Paul said). You will want some help, but it is very doable.

Doesn't your boat have an engine cover in the cockpit? Will it not come out through there? There is not a lot to disconnect. A lot easier than my years with cars. Hardest is the shaft usually. Then fuel line and some wiring which all needs to be recorded and tagged. Pictures will help. I removed everything on the surrounding bulkheads, filters, 3-stage regulator and the like. So I wouldn't damage anything. If you look in Owners Mods under H37C there are several photos of my removal of a 2QM20.

If it has to come out through the ladder and companionway you might use this idea. I made a U-shaped bracket to fit around the companionway. This centered the weight while allowing the forklift to pick it straight up, then move forward to clear everthing. Picture attached.

You will need to disasemble the cabinet withe the sink it can then be slid forward and hoisted. Did the job with help earlier thisnsummer but decided it would still be under powered and went for a new engine.

It is a 12 and the previous owner took off some parts. Like the injectors and the alternator. He also ran a temp fuel line. The engine turns over and Danny thinks we can make it run.
Is the 12 enough for this boat? It is a stock engine. Maybe we can boost the HP. I am looking into a back up Kicker

Most would say no, the YSM12 is not enough. It will limit your sailing to better conditions. The right prop is crucial with so little power.

Rich had a YSB 12 a slightly older version of that same engine. While when I got the boat it was already an old tired engine no one I have met with our boat the 30, ever thought it was enough power.

I recently replaced mine with a ym 15. It makes a huge difference when the boat is under power. It was already a great sailing boat now it is good under power.

I am up in Baltimore if you would care to go out and we can find a time would be glad to show you how she handles with more of an engine. Other big plus the new engine is both quieter and smoother than a YSM will ever be.

Thanks to All(=. The Single Cylinder Yanmar 12 is out . A One Cylinder? Well that is what it is and what I have to Accept for the time being)=. Thought if it was a two Maybe able to add turbo or bore it out so as to get more ummph. A little disappointed. Can't afford Repower at this time. Can anyone help with Rebuild? Does Yanmar have a Manual online? The motor was partially dissembled by the previous owner)=. The Positive is that is a 1 Cylinder(-= How Hard could it be to rebuild.
Thanks Rich

As far as manuals for the engine, here is a site that has them.

Take the time and make a good estimate of the cost to rebuild. You may find that it is better to buy a new or used working engine.
