I am considering the purchase of a 1976 Albin Vega advertised
at the following url: http://www.thunderbirdmarine.com/1847.htm
The asking price of $22,500 seems quite absurd. What should
an Albin Vega 27, in average condition, sell for in Canadian
dollars? Thanks a lot for your help.
P.S. most other 27- 28' boats of approx this vintage that I am
considering seem to fall in the 11000-14000 range (Catalina,
C&C, Ranger, etc.) - -asking price.

We paid $18,000 Canadian for our Vega, with trailer four years ago.
Originally it had been advertized at $25, 000. Good luck on your boat
buying.

In norway (high cost country) you could get a vega for around NOK 100K
(usually cheaper) or USD 10-15.000|

It depends an awful lot on the boat. I wouldn't sell Lorna Doone for less than
27,000 and she technically 4 years older.

PS I've owned a Catalina 27, and while the boat is adequate for its intended
use. "Coastal sailing in favaroble weather". I would not put it to test in
much beyond that. Whereas Lorna with a competent skipper has sailed the world
and would do so again.

In Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden and Norway) you can buy the wonderful Vega for approx. US$ 8.000 - 10.000
I recently saw a 1976 Swedish Vega. placed in Stockholm, for sale - US$ 8.000
If you sail her home, you get your travel costs well paid ;-)
(remember to buy a lot of Snaps too)

Try to take a look at :
Here you see some Scandinavian Vegas for sale (the price could give you a hint)
Prices are in Danish Kroner and Euro ( 1 Euro = 1 US$ )
Prices are a little high, becouse the boats are sold by a dealer - I you buy from private owner, you save approx. 1,000 Euro (US$)

Or, whilst your in Europe anyway :) (or at least virtually) have a go at
www.botenbank.nl and search for "vega" for a listing...
It\'s my experience that the reasonably Vega\'s are very quickly sold
(sometimes within a day after listing) for around 15000 Euro and what you
see left are "leftovers" neglected, dirty etc. (sorry) This goes especially
for boats lying at brokers.
