I am looking for other owners of Oday 25s of this model year to verify some peculiarities of my '75, or anyone else who has information on the following. 1) I have a pole in my cabin with a crank built in to raise and lower the centerboard, there is a tube inside to keep opening above waterline. This looks origional not modified. All other 25's I have seen have a cable in the cockpit. 2) When I purchased the boat there were 8 lead bricks in the bilge (35lbs x 8 = 280lbs). The P.O. told me they were always there, and he had the boat for 15yrs. Any thoughts or info would be appreciated. PS. R.W. same centerboard set up, no bricks. These boats are a little tender and some have added weight to compensate, but I wouldn't. I try to keep the boat balance with weight and sail as designed. Just reef at 10 - 15 knots. The centerboard set up works fine for me.

Tender, kind of a relative word.
Ric is right, The 25 seems tender. However, Most boats are tender in an initial gust. A sailboat heels to a design and then stiffens up and sails a hard heel.This is usually about 10 to 20 degrees. From that point it take alot of wind to heel it more.I hope you get what I just said. Information that I got about 5 years ago from I think it was Don Evans, was that O'Day said that the 25 could hold about 200# of extra ballast. It really doesn't stiffen the initial heel.It does slow the boat in light wind. I have added loose ballast to correct the list to starboard. The motor and the battery are on that side and to operate the motor I have to be on that side also so it lists to starboard. I will probably move my battery this coming winter ( one of this winters things that got postponed) to the port side under the cockpit. Then I should be able to remove my temp. ballast. I would make note of how your boat sails now and then remove the loose ballast and try it again. I think you will probably leave it out. r.w.landau
