1975 O'Day 22 Weep holes??

I have a 1975 O'day 22-just got it a week ago. Needs TLC to the max. I have had to literally hose out the interior--so much dirt, mold, trash , etc., to even begin to start cleaning/refurbishing. In doing so, I was surprised to see water collect aft of the cabin liner (beneath the cockpit floor) and NOT drain into the bilge. I reached down around where the centerline of the hull is in that area and tried to make sure there was no trash/debris blocking a "weep" hole so that the water could drain into the formal bilge but was unable to feel/find any hole/opening. Anyone with a '22 know if there is in fact a "weep" hole there (

First problem...

Hey Rich,I have a 1978 and have the same problem. I have been unable to find any weep hole as you put it, and plan on putting one in. I am unable to access the area where it should be because on the starboard cockpit storage locker the previous owner glassed in a wall. I thought water from a bad cockpit drain was collecting in there because of this, so I drilled a drain hole in this wall. This only caused more water to collect in this area. I'm going to remove the wall and pull out the 'floatation foam' that's in there to get access to where it should be. If the hole isn't there, which I don't think it is, it will be when I'm done.Hope that helps, wish I had a camera to show you what I've found so far. It can be tough to get into some of those areas, but you have to, to get at what needs work! That cockpit drain is a BATCH.Josh

When I found my 1978 22 in a marina, it had been neglected for many years, the cockpit drain had plugged up and the whole cabin filled up with water. I can still pick out the water line about a foot off the sole in the woodwork. She was on land, so I started a siphon with a garden hose and let it run. The cabin emptied ok, but under the seats and in the lazarette, and also in the forward compartment where the water jug is, remained full. It never did drain into the bilge. I ended up pumping it out from the lazarette, and it eventually dried out. In the normal course of events, it hasn't filled up again. I think that once you have gotten all the water out, unless the cockpit drain tube is broken, it won't fill up again. As for the cockpit floor not draining,after a rain water stands between the genoa track and the coaming on mine;fiberglass molds are not always perfect! ps you have a nice durable boat to play with in the O"day 22
