I am wondering if anyone has replaced their old fixed 2 blade prop on their H27 for something with a little more performance. I am running a SVE8 Yanmar 8 HP.

Any suggestions on what if any prop/pitch would be better than the original?

Thanks.

The had news is that it will be hard to get any more power out of your engine. Getting the prop checked and faired may help, but you have an old, weak engine, and the original prop is probably getting most of the available power into propulsion!

We finally upgraded to a 1gm10, and are pleased with the results. But the local prop shop suggested we stick with the original prop for the first year. Others have gone to a 2 cylinder - that would definitely need a new prop, but is more power than you can use.

I did replace my old two blade propwith a reconditioned three blade prop. I am also in the same boat (pardon the pun) since I have a older 1GM engnine. I am not sure if I was looking for increased performance or a better looking prop. But I have to say I was pretty proud of that nice shinny 3 blade prop when it showed up.

However, once in the water, I did not see a lot of performance improvement. As a matter of fact, I think my reverse gear does not work as well as it did with the two blade prop.

If I had to do it all over again, I think I would have just had the older prop re-conditioned. It would have been quite a bit cheaper. But you will not hear me say that in front of the boat or the new prop. :)

Okay, thanks. I suspected as much, but I was hoping for a miracle, or something. I can't justify repowering since the old girl is running like an 18 year old track star.............but slower :).

I too was thinking of replacing my two blade prop with a three blade due to lack of power from the 1GM.

After pulling the boat last week I found that I had about three small barnacles on the prop. After removing these I picked up at least a half knot to a knot in speed.

It is amazing how much three small barnacles can affect performance so much. I plan to get on a regular schedule with a diver to prevent this in the future.
