1975 H27 Cutless bearing

Can anyone tell me the OD and ID size ot the cutless bearing on my H27 Any part number and where I can get one? Also should I have a Zinc on the prop shaft? I am looking for the dimensions so I can make a tool to try and extract the old one.

Almost certain that your shaft is one inch in diameter(why can't you measure it?). For a 1" shaft the cutless bearing would be the one labeled "Back": http://www.deepblueyachtsupply.com/series.aspx?id=2 . So 4" x 1"ID x 1 1/4" OD. Measure your strut length, pretty sure it is four inches.

And yes, there should be a zinc on the shaft. Secure it about one inch ahead of the strut. If your shaft ever came loose at the coupler the zinc might keep it on the boat.

Thanks for the info it is a real help. The reason I don't measure is, I only get to visit the boat on weekends it is a 3+ hour round trip.

The three hour drive, exactly what I had when my boat was in Huron, OH. Now it is either forty minutes or forty hours with it sitting in Florida. Good luck with the replacement. And a good time to at least check the strut bolts for tightness. Better yet is to rebed it with new stainless bolts and stainless locknuts.

I just changed the cutlass bearing this spring on my 1981 Hunter 27. It has a 3" long strut and I built a device similar to the Strut pro ( http://www.strutpro.com/ ) from 3/8 "x 3" angle iron 8" long and 1/2" threaded rod. I drilled a 1" hole in the middle of one side of the angle iron and cut from the edge of the angle iron into the hole to make a 1" slot that would slide onto the shaft foreward of the strut. I cut a 4" piece of steel electrical conduit pipe (which had an inside diameterof 1" and a wall thicknesss less than 1/8" ) lengthwise, splitting the pipe so I could wrap it around the shaft foreward of the strut and placed a 3/8" steel plate with a 1 3/8" hole (big enough to let the cutless bearing slide through it)over the end of the shaft and up against the stern end of the strut. Then tightening the threaded rods pushed the the whole device together, and the pipe pressed the cutless bearing out of the strut. It only took 20 minutes to press the bearing out of the strut.......it took 3 weeks of my spare time and 3 prototypes to build the press. Good luck
