1972 Daysailer II Centerboard

I am having a problem with getting the centerboard to stay down on my '72 DS II. It will come part way down by working the cable (mounted aft top side of centerboard trunk)but not all the way. When reaching underneath, while in the water, I can swing it down by hand to fully vertical, but it slowly drifts back up to only being slightly out of the trunk. Has anyone successfully fixed this problem?Thanks, Alan

You should have 2 lines

The Day Sailer II has 2 lines to control the centerboard, you cleat off the one in use (or both if possible). There is a cable the comes up out of the cb trunk (housing) about midway along the top, this should have a pulley on it, and a line runs from the strap of a block near the aft end of the cb trunk, through the block on the cable, then aft and through the aft block. This linepulls the board down and can be cleated on the side of the cb trunk to hold the board down (wrap line around cleat loosely in case you need to release if board hits bottom). The second line controls the up cable that exits the cb trunk at the forward end.I have a DS II Manual that shows this and has a few ideas to reduce a buoyancy problem in the board.
