Just thought I'd introduce myself. I just picked up a 1969-ish O'Day Swift ("class #1371") from marketplace. I benefitted from this forum where a few folks made it clear: "This boat has no monetary value as a rare find." So, I paid very little for it and immediately began using it.
I know nothing about sailing. A 10'6" sailboard keeps the learning curve reasonably flat. I can leave my house, launch it at a local boat ramp from the bed of my truck and be rigged within about 15 minutes or so. I don't think many men in their mid-50's would find this fun, but I'm enjoying the challenge.
Just thought I'd introduce myself here and say, "Hi!" If any of you have ideas for what I should do to ensure that I can keep sailing this Swift as long as possible please chime in. The daggerboard, rudder, mast and spars are in good shape. The sail (not original) is not crisp but it seems sound. I'm not sure the Venturi bailer (?) works properly. The gudgeon/pintle combo seems good, but the backing block for the gudgeon feels a bit soft. I find the screws are backing out bit by bit as I use it. I'd really like to not lose the gudgeon/pintles on this boat. I don't think replacement parts exist any longer.
