192 rigging issue

We bought this 192 just over a month ago. I have been resolving many little things on the boat, but i'm stuck now. I am missing the shackle that attaches the tack to the boom. I have been using a hardware store McGyver type deal to get sailing, but it needs to be fixed properly. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for? A picture or link would be great.

On a side note, I've sailed her three time in the last week. We are getting to know each other doing better every trip. I can not believe I waited this long to get back to sailing. Thank God I finally did it.

If your gooseneck fitting is similar to mine on my 86 O'Day 222, you only need a small stainless steel shackle with the screw pin. The shackle goes through a hole in the upper part of that goosed neck fitting just above the reefing horn in the pics.

My setup is very close. My boat is an '87 so very near the age of yours. I am thinking this boat did not spend much time being sailed. The sails are in good shape and the places you'd expect to be worn by use, are not. It bought it from the family that bought it new.

It was my pleasure. Hey, your boat is newer than mine. The O'Day 192 is a sweet little boat. I know that you're going to grow fond of it as time goes by. They're easy to handle and the keel/centerboard provides good stability for a boat that size.

These shackles can be bought in any boat store and they come in a range of sizes. What you need to do is make sure that you get the right size shackle. Some shackles may be too narrow to fit over the metal tack grommet on the sail. Some may be too long which could cause the last sail slide to bind in the mast track when you pull on the outhaul. It's a good idea to run the sail up and eye ball it to get an idea. I would even use a piece of strong 3/16" braid nylon line and temporarily secure the sail tack grommet to the hole above the goose neck on the mast. Run the line through the holes to double the size for holding strength, and Then pull your outhaul and raise your sail just to get an idea of the size of the shackle needed. You can use this for now until you get your shackle. As long as the sail can be raised and lowered without the sail slides binding, this is what you want.
