Does anyone know where I could get diagrams, info, etc on the wiring for the 192. Just got mine this summer and need to do some trouble shooting. I have running lights, cabin light, but cannot get the masthead light to illuminate even after changing bulbs and cleaning all the connections I could see. The panel of switches almost looks like after market replacement but I cannot be sure. Can some enlighten me? John Dameron Lake St Louis MO

Check on deck plug

The stub of a cord and the plug in to the receptical on the deck near the mast were problematic on my 1986 192. My guess is that the plug often gets kicked, and connections get broken. Pull back the boot on both the female and male plugs and check for good connections. I needed to reattach mine. Improve the system by using solder and wrapping with electrcal tape. Later when it did not work again, I attached a small nine volt battery to the plug coming out of the mast to see if the wiring and bulb were good from that point. That time it needed a bulb after I had unstepped the mast and went through a couple hundred miles of trailering.

trace forward

Using a multimeter with pin type terminals, start at the battery and work yourself forward, checking for power as you go. Obviously the needle on your meter should be registering the same as you move forward. As soon as it does not, you have isolated where your short, ground, or open circuit is. Sometimes it can be a stretched wire, where everything looks ok, but the copper inside has parted. If wiring has parted in a location that you cannot reach, cutting it and rerouting with new wire is the only way to necessitate the repair.
