Hi Folks,
Just purchased a 19 Montego swing keel boat. Anybody know where the keel bolt is? Can't see it anywhere...would it be glassed over possibly? What are the two bolts for on each side of the trunk going through the hull?
Not familiar with Montego but the keel bolt is likely glassed over but could be exposed over the years. One of the other bolts is likely a "keel lock". If the boat gets nocked down you do not want a heavy ballasted keel knifing into the trunk. In shallow waters you may let it loose in case of a grounding. The keel will also need to be locked in the raised position for trailering. You always want the keel at least half way down for stability; otherwise the boat may roll and capsize. Depending on the location the other bolt could be a 2nd lock or it may be holding a sheave for the raising and lowering cable. Wait until someone with specific knowledge of the boat confirms what each bolt is for.
