19-2 Center board question

We sailed our 19-2 for the first time recently and I have a question or two:
When I released the line for the center board it didn't drop much at first (I was in plenty of water and off the boat trailer). After pulling it back up and letting it drop a few more times it appeared to be in place. However, after we anchored I looked tat the center board and it appeared to be at roughly a 60degree angle in relation to the hull. Our former boat was a Catalina 22 and that swing keel would be at a greater angle. Since it was our first time out and the winds were a little more than I felt comfortable with, we used the main only....needless to say, we had a difficult time tracking. I'm not sure if it was due to the centerboard, sail or combination...

Question - should the centerboard be at a steeper angle? If there is trouble deploying (releasing?) the centerboard....should i try to force it a little (by getting in the water and pulling down on it...depending upon resistance)? From the looks of the cascade line, I think a new line is in order and I would presume I should do the same for the uphaul line.
Next question - getting to the uphaul line connection at the centerboard might be a challenge for me (needless to say replacing the pivot pin and rollers...) - I live in the RDU area of NC - is there a boatyard anyone would recommend in this area?

Thank you,
Mark

Thank you for the diagram, rgranger! It confirms that the centerboard was not fully deployed.

I use to be the hunter dealer over in Zebulon many years ago. The same process described in by @rgranger centerboard line replacement found in hunter 26 under boat information is applicable for the 19. It was done at Pelican Point at Smith Mountain lake with me showing how to do it. Not sure if anyone is capable in the Raleigh area. knows how to do that. Are you willing to go to Smith mountain lake to get it fixed. Let me know. Top dealer for your boat and involved with the design

You will find the Hunter manual has a wealth of information. I have a better copy that was scanned in color but it is too large of a file to upload. I have a 1993 Hunter 19-2 and have had to remove the centerboard several times to correct a condition left from a prior owner.

Spoke with poster who knows me. I told him to measure line, take a flashlight, look up centerboard housing area for barnacles, and check for centerboard splits. As a precaution he will check trailer bunk board boards to see if they support the weight of the boat without indenting the hull.

I know the boat as I was a dealer for it, know the marina where boat is and there is no one in Notth Carolina who knows what to do. Made a suggestion to take the boat to a facility in Virginia where there will be two who know what to do one of whom will be me. My fee is gas only going to that marina
