I'm thinking of putting a 2gm 18hp inplace of my 1gm 6.5hp. Into my 1982 Hunter 27. Does this sound ok, or is 18hp to much? Does anyone know if it will fit? Thanks, Don

A friend that has a 1976 27 model has a 2gm20f. Looks like they did some modification to the engine cover or steps to make room. Seems to sail well and power is great.

Do your conditions demand it?

I have the same boat. The 1 cyl. (3 blade prop)pushes the boat to near hull speed. For our sailing conditions and use (short trips on Lake Erie)the engine is adequate. If the Huron river is running fast it just takes a few more minutes to get home. If you are facing tides or other particular conditions the large engine might be worth the expense. Andy

I guess it would be the conditions

I sail in Raritan bay NJ. Most of the time the wind just dies. So I find my self motoring a little more than I'd like to. I think the 1gm runs great! It's an awesome little engine! I just think I'm running it a little too hard and it's pretty loud! I thought the 2gm would be a bit smoother and quieter. I also feel I'm getting a pretty good deal on this 2gm! But if it's sounds like it's not a good idea to change, I'll stick with the 1gm. I love that little engine!
