I posted this on another part of the HOW site by mistake first (Ask a Hunter Owner), wow - a tough crowd! Well, I have gotten out a number of times since my first sail now, in a variety of conditions. Two times we were out for about 3 hours each - we had a wonderful time! As I mentioned when I first put the boat in early June, I was trying to get the feel for it. I now feel much more comfortable and really enjoy the space. One time out, my wife was stretched out on the leeward bench and I comfortably seated at the back of the windward bench. The wind was stable and about 6-10 knots. We were able to sail on one tack this way for a half hour - very relaxing. I've also had other outings with a stiff breeze, and able to play with pushing the limits on heeling to get a good feel for the boat, hiking out, easing the main, and heading up. Seemed to handle well. I am still having trouble sometimes with the jib not unfurling completely - looking twisted at the foot of the luff. We have also had the boat out on glass smooth water, with just a hint of a breeze and still made forward progress - not bad!

Wonderful Boat

David - It's great to get out on the water. I had the same impression... the 170 is pretty comfortable. I'm hoping to head into Indiana this weekend for some 170 sailing.

What is it?

I'm glad you are enjoying your 170! That is a great picture. I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what is the device at the top of your mast?

That is a Mast Float, I have that on top of my 146. Its really a safty device incase you flip, wont let the boat turtle when the sail fill with water.

Yea, I to am flying the "BLIMP" on my 170. I don't like the look of it but.......... I don't see it when I'm sailing and it is conforting to know that it will stop me from turtling the next time I go over !..... Also, it was about the only way I could get my crew ( wife) back on board after capizing last year !
