150% vs

a 140%. Whats your thought on that. The 150% headsail on our boat is not that old, (6 years old, but not that many miles) but I do,nt have that much confidince it, so it might be time for a new one. This boat (Pearson SD 28-2) is not that good that good at pointing and I would like to improve that. The boat came with a 150%, but I,am wondering if a 140% woudent be better for more accurate shaping the sail? We,ve been looking at a sail made of Preformance Norlam 3200 made by Cruising Direct Sails. Does anyone have any experiance with these sails and whats your thoughts.

I don't think

you'll find much difference in the "pointing ability" of 140 vs a 150 per cent sail unless your 150 is blown out of shape. If the sail can still hold its shape, you'd be better off trying to find ways to decrease your sheeting angles. FWIW, I sail with a friend on his 1986 Pearson 28-II with the 4'10" keel. He has a decently shaped 130 headsail on a furler. I doubt this boat can get much closer to the wind than about 50-degrees. That may be the best a boat of this design can do. All things considered, I think the P-28 is really nicely made cruising boat.
