150% Genoa on Oday 26

I was wondering about folks' experience with a 150% Genoa on an Oday 26. I am purchasing a 150% furling/reefing Harkin Genoa for my boat.

My question regards that it seems that when I will have the full 150% of Genoa out, the block will be slid so far back on the deck that the jib sheet will rub on the combing on the way to the winch.
Anyone have experience with this? How has it worked out?

Any suggestions?

I do not use deck block when my 135 is full out, but run all the way outside to gunnell block. Then with the limited length of track forward, I often but block behind winches and bring sheet across the cleats (I have added jam cleat) to winch.

Thanks for the comments. Do you have a photo of how your gunwale block(s) is/are set? Also, when your are using blocks behind your winch, is the sheet first running through the gunwale blocks, or some other blocks forward?

I have a 150 hank on. I run the sheet back to the gunwale block. In light air, I wish the track had more room to run the block forward more. The sheet does not work real smooth in the winch with it run forward, but we deal with it. I have considered adding more track, and I think there is room, but there may need to be a turning block mounted forward of the winch to bring the sheet in at the right angle

I do not have pictures, but it sounds like I do the same as Appleman.

There is only enough room to use side deck blocks with a shortened sail, from comments here it seems less than 135. You would run thru the deck blocks under reefed foresail and higher winds.

Good ideas all. I had been thinking about adding a turning block in front of the winch, with a deck block on a track. Seems like that would be a good solution but does required adding a fair number of fittings.

I could go with simply switching from the deck block to the gunnel block behind the winch (on the lazy side if I change the reefing) depending on how much genoa I have out.

I don't current have a track, but it improves trim capability quite a lot, correct? Is it worth having the track to be able to tweak the trim?

I will probably be off line for a week or so, so will check back then. Thanks for your comments, and any other thoughts folks have to share.

It's important for me to get this right, since I will need to buy and install fittings (and poke holes in my deck in doing so). Thanks again.

Ed doesn't do photo's. I am not even sure he owns a sailboat. Maybe he just has a waverunner with a rag tied to the handlebars. Has anyone ever SEEN eds sailboat, hmmm.....??????

Surely you are capable of more than repeating an email you posted earlier this year?

I will be traveling for the next few weeks, while I anticipate being able to read email, I know that posting will be difficult. So, Keith, you are welcome to come up to Starr, SC, and take pictures of my O'Day 26 at the dock. It is a public marina, just ask Jane which dock.

Maybe crossing in to a state that believes in liberty and freedom will help you.

Ok, you caught me, that was a replay. But i still got a chuckle out of it when i posted it.
And I do remember the photo you posted.
As for liberty and freedom, if you mean for the fat cat CEO's and the insurance companies to have the freedom continue to gouge the american citizen then yes, SC politicians are working hard to maintain those liberties.

You are right in one respect, I am free to buy a old used sailboat, clean it up, fix it up and sail. While our erstwile CEOs have 50 foot diesel trawlers.

I am sorry I do not accept the concept of social class baiting. They worked and did what they had to get their big boats, just like some physicians. While doing that many of those who worked for them had money to get themselves a used O'Day 26's. Just like some physician assistants I know.

Do not resent those who have achieved and taken many up with them.
