The winds here in the PNW can get pretty light in the summer months, and well I'm fine tweaking the Vega to go as fast as I can in a 5 knot breeze, my wife gets board(?) so we end up running on the trusty MD6a.I currently have a 100% jib and a storm sail. I'm looking to improve light wind performance with out sacrificing pointing too much. Seems when we want to go some where seems it's always on a beat.Any suggestions?Bob FuchsSilentium

That's sailing.... Always on the nose and you will
never have the correct sail in the wardrobe!

Take longer, enjoy the moment and
sail....

Hi Bob,On Sin Tacha for light airs I had a 140 nylon Genoa with a Dyneema luff rope. It was attached to the anchor roller and used the spinaker halyard to hoist. With the Dyneema luff rope you could really tighten the luff if you needed to point higher. It worked very well up to about 12 knots, then I'd use my Genoa on the furler, a 120 with a high cut clew, which worked well in most conditions. Running downwind in light air I'd have both sails out "wing-on-wing" style and leave the main down.Petermostlyaboutboats.ca

When the winds are noserlies it frequently requires the D-sail. Walt To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comDate: Tue, 27 May 2014 10:29:25 +0100Subject: Re: [AlbinVega] 135 or 150 Genoa

Better yet, just move to Tahiti. I've had the good fortune of sailing the waters around the Society and Marquesas Islands several times and there is always a good breeze that is warm -- pretty much year round. And we never minded if the wind was blowing in our faces -- we were on island time!

Now I have to wonder, why am I living in the Pacific NW????
