I recently purchased a 2002 Hunter 270 equipped with a UK 135% Genoa that has apparently been on this boat for at least several years, with blocks set up on the coaming. I would appreciate hearing from any other Hunter 270 owners, or 260 owners using a 135% Genoa rather than the standard 110% Genoa.

Genoa vs. jib

I have a H320 not a 27, but my comments should still apply.

Hunter vastly underpowerd the 320 with a 110 jib that proved to be more like 90%. The main was dinky because it had to furl into an undersized Selden mast.

I solve the problem with a 122% genoa built by North Sails. My sailmaker said the underpowering is also found on Beneteaus and that the genoa does the trick. Believe me, he's right.

We have no complaints from our h320 setup. The 110 headsail paired with the large roach main drive the boat strongly. Don't know about the furling main models but before increasing headsail area I would advise that you verify the headsail furler is up to the task. Our boat came with a Furlex 100 which are recommended for boats under 30'. I guess it was figured that with a small headsail it was OK to use the lighter unit and save the additional dollars that the F200 would have cost. Well sailing in 20 knot wind we blew the tack ring off from the unit with the 110 headsail. Furlex was very nice and provided us wiith a new part with a redesigned and beefed up drum and tack ring but we had to cover the installation expense. Our boat is a 2000 model so later models may have incorporated the upgraded part.
