looking for any specific model numbers/brands of 19" lcd tv w/ a built in dvd player that run on 12vdc. I would rather NOT use an inverter to power a 120vac unit. Some brands have those in line "boxes" that change the 120vac to a dc voltage. I am searching for one that will operate on the boats dc power. Anyone have any model numbers or brands that fit the bill?? Thanks for any help.

12V flat screens

Don't have any specific numbers yet b ut i did see several on display at best buy last time i was in there window shopping. I also saw a 19 in tv/dvd at a loves truck stop that was both 120v and 12v . I would suggest best buy first.

there is no difference

Sam Those "brands have those in line "boxes" that change the 120vac to a dc voltage" are 12VDC units. Think of them as having something extra the so-called 12VDC models don't - a power brick you can choose to use or trash as you prefer. There is no difference with one caution - if any of them are connected directly to the DC circuit and there is a power surge, they are not protected sufficiently to preclude frying the input circuit.

12v LCD TV

Sam, Jensen makes a 19" lcd 12v TV. digital and HD capable. Specifically designed for marine/rv use. Go to any local Fleetwood Motorhome dealer and look at Tioga/Jamboree class c. or do google search.

Digital TV in February

I believe that any new TV sold now has to conform to the change-over to digital TV in February. However, it would be wise to ask if the set has a digital tuner installed just in case your retailer isn't adhering to the rules. By the way because it always comes up, digital TV does not mean HD or high definition TV. Digital is the way the signal is broadcast through the air to be received by an antenna. The present system is analog.

Yep Ken.

And we had a major scandal here last month. One of our local brick & morters had the old analog style TV's on sale and weren't disclosing that fact! Bad, very Bad! Folks would need the $40 converter box. Bad

I have a Magnavox

19" HD TV LCD with DVD player that will connect through a serial port to a pc. it runs off of 12 VDC and has a 120 VAC transformer. we leave the transformer unplugged and just put a 12 VDC supply to the set. works great. for the owners cabin, we have a 9" Toshiba we got at Best Buy. It too has a DVD player and runs off 12VDC and has a 120VAC transformer built in. it was cheap, under $200 unlike the near $700 for the 19"

Try Polaroid...

I just installed the Polaroid 15.6" 1080i LCD HD TV with DVD - model TDX-01530B over the weekend. I found it at Target for aprox. 300. Circuit City offers the 19" model for a bit more. I selected these Polaroid models because they convert the AC to DC in the power cord not in the unit. Right now it is powered off of AC but next weekend I will take my newly fabricated DC cord to the boat and wire it up.
