My 272 has a simple electric panel that has teeny toggles that expose with a round base on the top of the breaker. I have lost the name of the manufacturer, but I assume it is normal to most 272's. Anyway, I need to find two new or reconditioned 15 amp breakers. I am absolutely amazed that there are no 12v (lighter) receptacles in this boat! I need to add a few receptacles below, add one for tiller steering, and, of course, add a circuit for my sound system--I do live on the West Coast after all!

I have many different sizes of Blue Sea Systems circuit breakers. I would be happy to sell them to you for $7.50 each + shipping.

I really dislike the cigarette lighter style receptacles. I hate them in cars and on boats. I like to use a two prong plug instead so you know you are getting good connections. The cigarette lighter style usually relies on a spring loaded switch and some type of friction device to keep the plug in the socket. If you install a typical two prong female outlet in the boat then you can add the male ends to your various devices and have a much better, more reliable connection.

Most 12 volt STUFF comes with a standard cig lighter male plug on it like portable inverters for instance that I always use instead of the ships inverter to charge a cell phone or power up the lap top when it needs a charge and how about the portable search light......I even have a three into one adapter cause sometimes we got a lot going on with the 12 volt plugs and on my to do list is to add another 12 cig lighter receptacle in the forward cabin and I never had on get loose or corrode yet.

It is really easy to cut off the male cigarette lighter plug and replace it with a good plug. Think of it this way, the male end has a spring loaded switch, the force of this is in the axial direction trying to force the plug out of the socket. This force is being resisted by a friction force applied along the side walls of the socket. The whole system is a design nightmare. Now i do have one or two of these on my boat for cell phones and such but I really dislike them.

I agree that cigarette plugs are poor connectors, but....

Be careful when cutting off the male cigarette lighter plug, particularly on some electronics items. While spotlights, fans and other simple devices don't, a lot of electronics devices actually step down the voltage from 12 VDC to a lower voltage and/or have a charging circuit in the cigarette lighter plug housing.

I fried a cell phone that way once.

A tiller control 12 volt receptacle out in the elements I would agree needs a water tight two pin connector but a well designed marine cigarette lighter receptacle in a cabin out of the elements I know would last a long time with out a problem and hey if you needed to replace it were not breaking the bank

Terrific! I need two 15 ampere breakers, if you have them. How can this be arranged? BTW, I am not really ken on DC wiring--I am assuming that I can size my wire by the ampacity, and I am assuming that the capacity of the wire is the same for both AC and DC. If I am assuming incorrectly, please advise!

Marinco makes a dynamite 12 VDC cigarette lighter plug and socket. They are twist locking, Power on Green LED indicator and water resistant with dual double o-rings.

I just checked my inventory of Blue Sea Systems breakers and found only one - 15 amp unit. However, I still have: one-40 Amp, two-10 Amp, five-5 Amp, two-5 Amp(Black Toggle), four-2.5 Amp, three-1 Amp. Can you a 10 Amp breaker instead of the second 15 Amp breaker? Sorry for the mis-information! Brian. Shipping via USPS First Class Mail @ $5.00

I can probably use the 10. My stereo has an inline 10 anyway. What is the total $? I will just go into PayPal and send you the money... Don't you have to be a PayPal vendor or something for me to send you money?

there are a ton of places you could use a cigarette lighter, but there are also places where they don't belong.
here's a short story....on our 272 LE (came w/two duplex outlets)..I decided to put a cigarett lighter into the
pathway leading to the quarterberth...installed it in the engine comparment and wired it....worked really well until I had the boat on the crane doing the bottom and somehow needed something from quarterberthe so I hurried up the ladder, climed aboard...went into the quarter berth than came back down the ladder...was again working on the boat bottom, when we noticed smoke coming out of the companionway hatch...hurried up the ladder, down the companion way steps and found I had hit the cigarette lighter with my rear end when I was in the quarterberth ...it was jammed in; i.e. did not pop out...and I nearly set fire to the boat....got there in time but the wood around the lighter was basically on fire....or would have been shortly....since then, have never needed a cigarette lighter. My breakers are by Carling Switch, and I do not know if Blue Sea breakers are compatible... Could be that they are the same but named differently...?

They are identical. Carlingswitch private labels Circuit Breakers for Blue Sea Systems as they do (carlingswitch) many other OEMs. The only differance between the standard Carlingswitch Breaker and the Private Label Blue Sea Breaker is that Blue Sea has the the Amperage silk screened on the face directly below the white bat handle switch. All mounting holes, screw locations on the front and back are indentical. Oh, I think that Blue Sea Systems may also specify Stainless Steel Hardware. Thanks for your question. Brian
