12 Volt fridge/freezer

I'm looking to adding a fridge/ freezer but do not want to make it built-in. Saw this at the boat show last October. Anyone have one? If so how has it worked out and would it be a battery killer? I currently have 5 flexible solar panels, each is 10W for a total of 50W. House bank is 4 Group 24's Or do you think I should just bite the bullet and change over the built in Icebox to a fridge? With the table removed in the H37C I have the room to set it on the floor in the salon.

The Engel MT60-Combi is a large and powerful dual voltage combination fridge and freezer, with two separate compartments - one freezer and one refrigerator. We put it on the floor in the nav station. I never sit there anyway.
The photos show the fridge poking out of the nav station. I built a tray that is mounted on glides used for pull out cabinet shelves to make it easier to load and unload. There's a caster wheel on the outside edge of the tray to help support the weight.

I have an Engel 45. It has variable temp starting at 0 degrees. It draws about 2.5 amps when running and runs about 10 hour during the summer. It's tough and dependable. They have a great reputation. I can't speak of the combo but Engel has a good name.

I just bought an edgestar brand AC/DC compressor based fridge/freezer. While it is not as nice as the Engle in features it is quite a bit cheaper. It does have removable wire racks so you can load them up in the house and just carry the racks to the fridge.

It is 110V / 12/24V and has priority on the 110v source. So if you plug both in it will use the 110V if both are available. It draws about 2.5 amps when it runs on dc and so far in the winter is does not run very often at all.

So far we have only used it 25 days on our Florida last fall, but will be using it again in a couple weeks. I have an amp meter that ihttp://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/macgregor2/inside-22.htmls accurate to .1 of an amp and when it runs I see about 3.5 amps of draw. It didn't run that much last fall as it was go cold and often we turned it off at night and it would maybe go from 38-40 the night before to 44-45 in the morning when we would turn it back on.

We have 180 watts of solar and in 25 days, besides what we ran the outboard, we only had to run...

I think about an 80 watt panel would handle it day after day as long as you get sun most of the time and the days aren't real short like when we were there in Nov./Dec.. We also ran the computer a lot and the chartplotter and my CPAP machine each night on those 180 watts of solar.

The EdgeStar will run in freezer mode also down to I think -8 degrees, but isn't setup to be cooler/freezer at the same time. I looked at the other two major brands, but our 63 quart was on sale for $438 with free shipping and too good a deal to pass up. We are very satisfied with it,
