The fluid level in my 12 Volt batteries is low, to the point that the top of the plates is exposed. In the olden days, we used "Distilled Water" to top off batteries. Question: Is it ok to use bottled water ?
Hans,Bottled water has minerals etc. You may have a problem with your battery. Once a plate is exposed to air it does not have the chemical reaction it did before being exposed. The rest of the cell (the submerged portion) should still be good. You have probable just lost some of it's capacity.r.w.landau
also, keep a close eye on the first few charges, paying attention to whether say seem to be holding up. If they sat a while like that they lose capacity.
Very good advice guys!Did go to the drugstore today and picked up a gallon of distilled for $1.29, (beats the liquor store)Now I am charging and next we'll check for capacity. Come to think of it, last year towards the end of the season, starting my Westerbeke went a little reluctant. Now I understand why. Thanks again. These forums are of great help.Hans.
