I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I just thought that it would be a cool thing to get a small 12V crock pot for the boat. Think about it, you could slowly cook some food during the day and it wouldn't heat up the cabin much. I wonder how much drain it would be but I wouldn't think that it would be that much since it is a crock pot. I could simply put it on the oven top and gimbal the oven. Then strap it to the oven.

What do you think? Anyone have one of these things?

Way too much current

The amount of current to heat an element to cook in a crock pot would be too high. You would be able to get away with this on a powerboat, but on a sailboat you would be better off with a solar cooker if you want to slow cook food without heating up your cabin.

Re: Way too much current

My 3 quart crockpot draws about 100 watts.

I home can all of my meat and the soups for the boat. My soups are complete but for the noodles which I add when I put the open jar contents into a pan to heat. In ten minutes the noodles are done and the soup is ready. I am able to put a beef stew on the table in twenty minutes by having canned meat and stock on hand. Peel and cut up the carrots and potatoes and cook them in stock add a half pint of canned mixed veggies and the meat and seasoning, stir in a roux to thicken and serve.

We should make a suggestion...

The Ryobi One Plus 18V Crockpot....of course it wouldn't last all that long as a slow cooker...I just want one to keep my nacho cheeze dip melted. It woudn't be the stupidest 18V coordless device they have come up with. Plus they make a 12V charger already. They could follow it up with the 18V cordless blender. Both would have applications by land (tailgating) and sea.

Crockpot

I've got a cordless blender for my boat. It's made by Coleman. It's rechargeable and works for many pitchers of margaritas before it needs recharging. I got it on a closeout for $39 a couple of years ago.
Maybe we should contact Coleman to see if they'll make one.

Re: Crockpot

Three or four little candles for aroma cookers will putout enough heat to keep a small pot hot. You simply need to devise a pot holder that has room beneath for some candles.

Just about anything you can make in a crockpot or a pressure cooker, you can make ahead at home and freeze in the size containers you use aboard...then all you have to do is leave one in the sink all day to thaw and reheat it. Meanwhile, your meals can chill your beer.

Peggie, that works great for the first week. After that the ice runs out and everything has thawed.
