Forgive me if this has been posted previously. What do you think of this stunt? Only ten days out (on a 1000 day journy!) and they have already had a collision with a freighter that bent the bowsprit! Does anyone not think they will come limping into port long before the 1000 days is up? It seems like a very ill concieved fantasy to me. Opinions?

Amazing

that anyone would attempt this stunt. He's about 55, she's about 23 and has never sailed before (except up and down a river). I give her a couple more weeks, max.

Second time around

As I recall, this same guy attempted a trip (stunt?) like this once before. He didn't last the entire projected duration, and equally interesting, his sailing partner (wife or girlfriend, I'm not sure) broke up with him and jumped ship before the trip ended. I heard that he's prepared to do all kinds of onboard "farming" to provide his own food. What's next -- livestock? A thousand days at sea without stopping? It just doesn't click for me -- not when there are so many beautiful and interesting places to stop and explore. Pete s/v EmmieLou (Oday 322) Little Silver, NJ
