100% prime cut?

It seems like 100 jibs never make full use of the forestay; I understand that this is done intentionally to depower the upper sailplan and reduce heeling in heavy conditions. But is it an absolute "no-no" to have a full length luff in a 100? Could you keep the upper slot, and just reduce LP down lower without necessarily paying a heavy price in terms of heeling? I am wondering whether a shorter luff is needed to start a wider slot from the top down? Does the width of the slot grow with changes to smaller headsail sizes, or does it stay much the same, regardless of sail%? I would have asked this on the expert forum, but nobody's home. Thanks for any feedback.

full hoist jib

I believe you will find that a full hoist jib will be more efficient close hauled and point higher. The jib with similar area but shorter luff length should be better on a reach. FWIW, Henry
