We have now had Serenade on the water for a month, and roughly 50 miles logged. she is a pleasure to sail, either with just the main, or both main and jib (110). we did add a rather spendy mattress topper to the v-berth to make nights aboard nicer. the only problem so far is that reefing the main is a little clunky, mostly because it's just more material than I'm used to.

The folks at our marina are very friendly and helpful, and it turns out there is a sail maker very close who everyone very highly recommended. I'm having him put together a bid for a roller furler, and I hope to make that upgrade soon. It'll mean removing the forestay to have it shortened, so I may miss out on one weekend of sailing. Anyway, just thought I'd post an update.

Sounds like you're setting up for a pretty great summer. With a little practice you'll be reefing the main in 30 seconds or so. Why don't you have that sailmaker check out your mainsail too, he may be able to re cut it to make reefing less necessary. Have fun.

I'll have him look at the main also, as I want to add a second reefing point. Part of the problem with reefing is that the cringle(?) won't go down far enough to slide over the horn because the slides are held up by a small screw. The screw keeps the slides from dropping out of the slot, but also makes the distance from the horn to the cringle about 1" farther than necessary to actually insert. For now I have a stout lashing that I can use to keep it down, and the leech end I have rigged up with a line that goes through the boom and up to a clamp at the forward end. I'm hoping he has some ideas to make that more better. :)

Had that problem for years with my H31. Finally broke down and got a mast gate. I’m kicking myself for not having done it years ago.

My C-30 had "put the cringle over the horn" reefing and it was a major PITA.

Made up a "Dog Bone" through the cringle, was easy-peasy after that.
