I was just reading this on the news. The big C was rescued off the coast of Newfoundland. I looked up the current record, set in 1993 1 metre 3 feet 2 inches OMG I couldn’t imagine.

It’s by far off topic. It’s a sailboat, quite the sailboat, tried to cross the Atlantic. Too bad he didn’t make it. That’s quite the effort; I will limit mine.

Thanks

People do all sorts of things in pursuit of adventure. I'll withhold any judgment. I would be a stark raving lunatic if I could't stretch my body out. Seriously, I would go mad.

1.2 metre sailboat trying to break a world record is certainly not off topic.

Thanks
This thread was originally posted in the Ask All Sailors forum and was moved to the Sails Call Lounge by a moderator. The Ask All Sailors forum is intended, as its title implies, a place to ask questions about sailing and maintaining our boats and those questions reach a broader audience than a post in a model specific forum.

The Sails Call Lounge is intended to be a casual forum where members can share stories about their adventures or other topics of interest to members. Think of it as the online equivalent of a friendly yacht club bar.

The original post was not a question, nor was it a post seeking information about sailing. It was a topic that might be of interest to sailors and is certainly the type of topic that might come up in a yacht club bar. For those reasons the post was moved to the Sails Call Lounge.

Cheers!

It was reported that he was doing this to raise money for cancer research. I get a little hacked-off when people use emotional hooks to fund their pet adventures.

If he trully was interested in funding cancer research then there are easier and more practical ways to fundraise. I know someone is going to call me out for being a killjoy but... he did put other people (the Coast Guard) in jeopardy for his stunt.

And how much money, time and resources were spent on this stunt. Maybe invest that in a mutual fund for cancer research instead.

Sorry, but I'm not inspired.

I am very interested and I was sharing this post in ask all sailors section as it is very pertinent. Off topic would be talking about tariffs?
