    Another solar panel install question

When tying in the battery connections to the MPPT Controller outputs, do I have to go to the battery posts? Can I tie in to the battery connections on the DC Panel like the battery charger does? I would still use an inline fuse holder at the connection.

Added a second battery and solar panel.

Finally added a second battery and solar panel to my 1979 Newport 28. The boat originally had one battery, a 1/2/off/both switch, no inboard atomic 4, questionable shore charging capabilities, but does have a 9.9 HP outboard. For peace of mind I wanted to add a second battery and a solar panel...

    Replacement Solar Panel Hunter 410

Could someone possibly give me an indication as to the location of the regulator for the old Solar panel? Also has anyone any ideas on a replacement panel that would fit the space already allocated for the existing one?

    Solar Trickle Charger

Just replaced my starting battery with a new, wet cell unit and decided to install a 4w Coleman solar trickle charger to keep the battery charged up. After 5 days on the solar charger at the mooring my battery was weak and had to jump it with an external charger to get the engine to start. Is it...

    Flexible solar panels

I bought a 50 W flexible solar panel for my Bristol 24, with the idea being it´s small enough that it won´t blow up my batteries, and hopefully keep them topped up assuming little drain from me and some charging from motoring. Now I have to mount it, and figure the best place is just forward of...

    New batteries and charging plans

Would appreciate advice on my plan to replace my batteries and add a charging device to keep them topped up. The boat is a 1978 Irwin 38 aft cockpit with a Westerbeake 33A. At this point, I have two very old batteries: an 8D and a Group 31. Planning to replace with HOUSE: two Trojan 105 6v...

Solar Panel Questions - Hunter 25

Hi! I'm thinking of installing a small solar panel to help maintain/charge the battery bank while I am away. I have a 2007 Hunter 25 with two standard car sized batteries chained together. The batteries do not have much draw as they are only used for the following: 1. automatic bilge (mostly...

    Solar Junction Box Repair

Well I should have seen it coming. The main sheet caught on the positive cable exiting my flexible solar panel and ripped the junction box clean off. Image by Genesis V posted Jul 4, 2016 at 9:12 PM Is there anyway to repair this? It a $400 replacement. Would be nice to solder on extension...

Anyone have experience with Sunforce/Coleman Solar Panels ?

Good Morning :) I picked up a Coleman 40 watt Mono-Cristalline Solar Panel with Charger Controller for $75 USD ($95 CAD). http://sunforceproducts.com/product_details.php?PRODUCT_ID=254 It looks like it may work for mounting on the stern, without getting in the way. The panel is 31"x14"x1" in...

Just want to say "Thanks, Maine Sail"

Your articles on using solar panels to keep the batteries topped off have helped me extend the life of my sailboat batteries. And now that the Admiral and I have built an off grid storage shed, the lessons learned here are being used on a much larger system and more expensive system. And I...

Solar panel bracket and outboard prop guard

The previous owner had the solar panel velcroed to the lazarette hatch. It was problematic for several reasons. I made up a bracket to mount it on the stern rail. The actual rail clamps are Salty Dog units that came as a pair for $10.95 from our local Marine Trading Post here in Fort Myers. I...
