Coffee on board

I drink 2-3 cups/day. I like coffee enough to buy the hipster stuff, but I'm not enough of a nerd to grind my own.

How about you?
If you really enjoy (not just like) coffee, grinding beans just before brewing makes a big difference and takes only a minute or two with a small hand grinder if you are making just a cup or two at a time.
I will gladly suffer being called a nerd if that's what it takes to enjoy the difference.

Here is a reasonable hand grinder for anything but espresso.

I use a #6 Melitta filter into a ss thermos, makes more than six cups, stays hot all day, pre-ground coffee usually Tim Horton's dark, I'm Canadian... I make it strong, recognizing it ain't perfect. Sometimes I'd buy "better" coffee, too, jut to treat myself. At home I use it too along with a cup of espresso from our machine (which unfortunately just broke!). I used a French press for a while, but it was far messier to clean than just dumping the used full filter into the trash.

1 cup - Aeropress Coffee Maker - Original. Best coffee ever but messy to clean.
>1 cup - Melitta Thermal Pour Over. Very good coffee and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot not warm but hot for a couple of hours.
Ground beans always.

:plus: (or +100) to Aeropress.

The Porlex Mini grinder nests inside it - probably not the ideal grinder, but a nice compact travel setup, and it's worked well enough for me. Likely to eventually be replaced with an Outin Fino to save a little more wear on the arthritis in my wrist.

Hot water from stainless tea kettle (keeping the tea drinkers happy as well).

~700w for ~3-4 minutes to boil, so ~50 w/h from the battery bank including inverter losses. Primary backup if batteries are low is a Jetboil (but the right answer there is a little more solar).

Bailey's is $25 here, I'm currently using his white trash cousin's brew Dempsey's at $9.99. I tell everyone I use it instead of cream because it doesn't need refrigeration. It's got to be healthier than that bodged up coffee "creamer" so many use.
Oddly I have a twenty+ year old glass french press on board that has not broken, rusted or otherwise failed, as expected it's cursed to stay at sea forever like the Dutchman.

OK, I'll have to confess - I don't know what "that little something extra" is???
It can only be the original Bailey's Irish Cream :

And none of their latest lemony, strawberry, mint flavoured horse-:poop:.

Was once almost thrown off a boat by the hosts for adding Bailey's to my Moroccan Mint Green Tea. What's so wrong with that ?

At Two Harbors on Catalina island they had a drink called Ballast Point Tea. Mint tea, Baileys and peppermint schnapps. Sounds terrible but it was a delicious alternative to a shore boat coffee.

Coleman stove top percolator is my go to coffee pot on board. French Market coffee & chicory works for me….dark & strong!
