Spreader cover on O’day 240

I caught my genoa on my spreader and did some damage to the sail. This got me to looking a bit closer at my spreader and it looks as if there was at one time, a hard plastic cap on it that looks as if it is cracked and broken. I am trying to determine what size spreader boot/cover is the right size to place on here so I do not do any further damage... it looks like it currently has some sharp edges on the broken plastic.

I do not drop my mast, so I am also curious if this is something that can be repaired with the mast up? And finally, is this a difficult repair?

Just order a set of spreader tip covers from any chandlery... you don't have to drop the mast. I used to have the rubber type that need zip ties to secure them, like these:

... but they will deteriorate in a few years ...

so I installed these TaylorMade buckle on padded canvas units 16 years ago and they show no wear at all.

Same/similar problem with 150 Genoa, two size boots did not help/work.
Ended up using a Jib roller, out on top end of spreader.
