Rotted inboard engine cover

I have a 1990 Capri 26, purchased in May. I noticed the top step was loose. When I removed the full engine cover it was apparent the plywood was badly rotted in about a 6x6 inch area. Because the plywood is sandwiched between Formica and foam epoxy insulation I'd rather find a way to repair the problem. I'm wondering about using something like Git Rot or straight West System epoxy. Has anyone run into this problem?

Always post pics of you can take them with your phone, so that we can see what you are talking about. A picture really is worth a thousand words! Without a pic it's hard to judge whether or not the wood is worth saving or if it should be replaced. Good luck.
