Might add additional #0 spur nickel grommets around the perimeter so the cover folds over better but this works:

I am writing from Sydney, Australia.
I have a Capri 22, fin keel, standard rig, built 2001, hull number 932.
I notice the the photos that you have posted of your rudder is the same shape as my rudder.
Could you please tell what the construction of the rudder is? Is it HDPE plastic ? or is it timber that has been fibreglassed ?
I want to cut 30-40mm off the front edge of my rudder, above the waterline, to move the blade forward to give a better balanced rudder like the rudder shape from Ruddercraft and the Catalina Direct website.

As far as I can tell it is not fiberglass but might contain a core anyhow.... When i dremeled out the scratches at least 2-3 mm deep i never reached a different layer.brotherhood128 said:

I personally would not try do this, but before you do any major surgery maybe drill a hole through the rudder at the thickest point to check if there is a core or not. You can always fix that hole with some epoxy and gel coat....

The rudder you have is cored and is produced in two halves.
Mine is completely split from the pintals to the head.
I would not recommend the doing or buying the following:
HDPE run Forrest run........lol
Do not cut the foil to recesse the pintals.
Now I did just buy a new Ruddercraft for my boat it is nice, the foil is straight they did a nice job.
It is smaller than the original. I have not used yet so no comments at this point.
Buy a new rudder less than a 1000.00 US dollars that is a great deal!

Would love to buy a new Ruddercraft rudder but the Australian dollar is no so go to your U.S. dollar and the transport to Australia for a bulky item like that would make it a very expensive rudder.
