No frills fiberglass to paint

I used to be the chemical hygiene officer where I work. Never spray epoxy without serious HAZMAT equipment. Rolling it is not so hard though. A simple charcoal respirator and a tyvek suit from Lowes is good enough. Keep it off of your skin and and keep some white vinegar handy to wipe it off when you do get it on your skin.

To further confuse the OP I would NOT use barrier coat on good gel coat. If the boat doesn't have blisters then I wouldn't barrier coat and save yourself tons of time, work and expense. Tell a buyer at least he can see what he's getting. If there are blisters then by all means barrier coat but be aware that barrier coats needs to be applied when it's over 50 degrees for 24 hours or close to that. Add in no wind, pollen season over not excessively humid and kiss getting that boat in the water to sail goodbye unless you have indoor storage or want to tent it (Yet more work).
I have painted topside fiberglass with Interlux one part epoxy with a roller and brush (I'd never heard of roll and tip back then) with good results. Yes, up close you could see brush marks but if I had experience thinning it would have been better. I think I did use a primer.

thats the thing shemandr - i have some areas around the keel and the rudder tube where the fairing compounds are cracked and i need to grind into them to glass it all back in proper... at that point i have to put the barrier coat on at least in places.

Furthermore, to the rest, i've decided to buy a positive air pressure respirator and compressor for it. its 400 bucks but enh. its a useful tool right? lol. that plus paint and i'll still come in under cost i think what i have budgeted for the paint. i round up, aggressively, for these boat projects.

I think viewing DIY projects as an excuse to buy new toys is a healthy mindset... my wife may disagree!

Yes but... when you are done fairing you can overcoat with unfilled epoxy, sand smooth and paint (With bottom paint). Or maybe you need a primer. I'm not against barrier coats but is an awful amount of work to do well and it will take up considerable time.
