Glow Plug Heater Circuit Issue M18 Diesel

I have the original stock alternator. My normal DC load is only the VHF, GPS, Depth and Speed. The biggest load would probably be the Glow Plugs and starting.
So from the Alternator to the Starter, How long does the wire need to be? In Maine Sail's pictures the cable looks to be around 10-12"?
1/4 " Lug on Starter 5/16" Lug on Alternator?
The boat is over 60 miles away, so I would like to pre-stage my cable and heat shrink the connectors before I leave home.

It probably is <10” between the lugs but to get a good fit without excessive bends you need a bit more. The cable will be a U shape
